Eagle Flyer
A newsletter for Walnut Hills High School
Principal's Message
October 16, 2020
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families:
It is hard to believe that today concludes the first quarter of the school year. It has been both the longest and shortest quarter that I have experienced. Saying that we definitely learned a lot in the process is an understatement. I am incredibly proud of our students and teachers who have worked so hard this quarter in challenging circumstances. Together, we made learning and school happen in an entirely new way. I hope that students and families take a moment to relax and regroup over the weekend. Monday begins a new quarter and a fresh start.
There is A LOT of information in this Eagle Flyer. Please note with this coming week’s schedule we have some minor changes in the Wednesday meeting times: we included a five minute break between the class meetings on Wednesdays. Teachers will be available for the entire morning on Wednesdays to either meet with their class of students or provide office hours/help sessions.
Also, please mark your calendars for our virtual Curriculum Night on Wednesday, October 21, 6-7:40 pm. Parents will have the opportunity to follow their student’s schedule, meet the teachers and learn more about the courses. Teachers will email parents with the Google Meet code to join their Curriculum Night presentation and follow this schedule.
Thank you for your continued involvement in your child’s education. We couldn’t do it without you.
Sursum ad Summum,
John Chambers

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. MEMORABLE MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
Aliens INVADE chemistry classes!
Students worked in teams to determine the organization and patterns of a group of aliens. Once they discover the pattern, they can predict the missing aliens. (The sector code, alien color, and number of eyes)
This activity compares to how Dimitri Mendeleev organized the 56 known elements, in 1863 into the periodic table. He recognized patterns and even predicted not yet discovered elements and their physical properties with amazing accuracy based on the gaps in his organization system.
The kids loved it! Cameras were on, students were talking to each other, and overall great engagement.
Lunch with Ms. Stephenson
