Principal's Message
November 20, 2020
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families,
It is easy to find a lot of negative things about the year 2020 and the challenges that it has brought to our society, families and school. More than ever, we need Thanksgiving and all of its reminders about being thankful and counting our blessings.
I am so grateful for our school’s longstanding commitment to academic excellence in a diverse learning community. For almost 125 year Walnut Hills has educated students according to these core values. Over the last 125 years the school and its students have withstood many tests and challenges and grew from them. I am so appreciative for that history that gives us institutional strength when we need it. This past year has required innovation, adaptation, and resilience on the part of each person in our school community. I could not be more proud of everyone’s efforts.
In all that we are missing during this remote learning, there is underlying gratitude for what we had and will have again in the future at Walnut Hills High School. In new ways, we understand that being together is not to be taken for granted.
We hope that you and your family enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with whatever traditions or new twists that this year’s celebration may bring.
Thanks for being part of our Walnut Hills High School community!
Sursum ad Summum,
John Chambers

Follow this link to register by November 26th!
Seniors:
- Please fill out the 3E link attached so your name can be entered for a gift card.
- The next deadline for college applications is December 1st (including UC and Miami). Please give counselors three weeks to process your requests.
Seniors: The CIC and Writing Center are still available for college application and essay assistance. Please reach out if you need help, and allow sufficient time for feedback.
- As a reminder, UC's early action and scholarship deadline is December 1! In addition, anyone applying to competitive programs, such as engineering, DAAP, Lindner Business, and CCM, should apply by December 1.
- Please Plan Ahead!! Remember that the counselors, CIC staff and Writing Center staff will be observing the Winter Holiday Break from school from December 18 to January 4 and will not be available for processing and editing college applications and essays. If you have early January deadlines, requests must be submitted in plenty of time to be facilitated....no later than December 1.
Juniors: The CIC recommends taking the ACT for the first time on December 12 (as long as you feel safe). TODAY (November 20) is the last day to register at www.act.org! Walnut Hills is still planning to be a test center, but capacity is limited, so you may need to choose another test center. Order the Test Information Release for $22 to use as a study tool before retaking the test, and check with the colleges you're considering to determine whether or not you need to take the writing test. For more testing advice, refer to the monthly Junior College Planning Newsletters that you receive via email.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
Helping Others
Mark Godsey, a Professor of Law at the University of Cincinnati, Director of the Ohio Innocence Project, and Walnut Hills High School parent spoke to Mrs. Noland's AP Psychology course. The Ohio Innocence Project works to get people out of jail who have been wrongfully accused of crimes based on faulty eye witness testimony. Mr. Godsey spoke virtually to Mrs. Noland's class and was accompanied by an exoneree who spent 20 years in jail for a crime he did not commit. The psychology students have just completed a unit on memory and this presentation helped provide students with a real life example of how memory impacts decision making.
